About Heath

It was a love of photography that inspired Heath Robbins to leave his job as an agency executive and travel the world with a camera in hand. More than twenty years later, it is his love for food, people, and making pictures, that continues to fuel his commercial photography career with focus and passion. For every client and for every shoot, Heath sets out to capture moments, tastes, and emotions that pull people out of their everyday, and straight into the moments that he creates.

Happy Turkey Day

Last week's blog got me thinking. How many turkeys have we photographed over the years? I lost track somewhere around 20 and thought it would be fun to share the collection! Here is a sampling of the birds who have graced our studio. For more of Heath's food and lifestyle imagery, please visit heathrobbins.com and have a delicious Thanksgiving! ~Jenna

Happy Holidays! ...again

Jenna here! I'm taking over the blog for a bit while Heath is on set with back to back to back to back shoots.

All summer long we shoot glistening turkeys and delicately wrapped presents on front of sparkling trees. We get to celebrate the holidays over and over again! Here's a behind-the-scenes look at a shoot we did for the Staples "Holiday Center" website. This wasn't the usual subject matter...who knew you could make gorgeous centerpieces out of pushpins or delicate desserts from Bugles? We had so much fun working with the husband and wife styling team Jeremy and Caroline Woodward; there was lots of glitter flying at midnight before our shoot! The master of confections, Monica Mariano styled our food. Our new in-house producer, Drew, survived (and flawlessly executed) his first big job. We cruised through an aggressive shot list with both Heath and Jason shooting and the awesome team from Staples bouncing between sets. Check out these fun picts from our day! And, of course, the reason we all worked so hard...

Yankee cookbook

This past summer we had the opportunity to work with Lori Pedric and the fantastic crew at Yankee Magazine again on their third annual cookbook. I believe they actually call it a "cookbookazine" but either way the recipes are always to die for. Catrine Kelty was once again our food stylist and Beth Wickwire from Ennis Inc handled all the propping. This years theme was "Lost and Vintage" recipes.

Here are some behind the scene pics and a few final images.

Lori hard at work designing as we went

Drew and Jason were having a beard contest. Drew was winning.

Beth brought a few props...

Wish I could remember what story I was telling

No shoot is complete without wearing or trying out some of the props.

Some final images!

Talk about cold

Sundae Evolution from Heath Robbins on Vimeo.

Thought I would put together a little video of the steps it took to shoot a recent ice cream sundae. Step one: make the studio really, really cold so your subject doesnt melt. Step 2: get everything prepared before your hero comes on set. Step 3: Click

It's a lot of fun if you're dressed warmly... and don't eat too many of the props.

I hate rocks

If I never see another rock again it will be too soon. Of course that's just a pipe dream becuase there isn't a spot in my entire yard that isn't all rock when you get two inches down. Using a pick axe has become my new workout.

Memorial Day was a beautiful weekend and I spent a good part of it digging...and digging...

I had to first dig the post holes, the post hole digger was utterly useless. It was pick axe and then hands and knees, couldn't even get a shovel through the stuff. I needed to get down 20 inches but keep the hole narrow, so when the pick axe didnt reach I resorted to a steel bar to pry the rocks out and then scop them out by hand.

After that came the wire, which was heaven to my arms and back. But it was short lived because then I had to plant.

The good news is I now have plants in the ground and despite the workouts I'm looking forward to planting more by the end of the week. So far I have tomatoes, three kinds of peppers, basil, dill, cilantro, parsley, squash and cucumber.

Next up, finish the gate and find some more veggies to plant!
